Nepal vs Namibia – 50 Over – ICC World Cricket League Championship -
The Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Office said it would provide high security during the Nepal-Namibia ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Championship round-three matches.
The matches would be held at the Kirtipur Ground on Saturday and Monday.
Organising a press conference in Kathmandu today, the MPCO said all security preparations were over for the matches.
The Metropolitan Police Commissioner AIGP Pratap Singh Thapa said as many as 773 police personnel would be mobilised under the command of an SP. Staff from the National Investigation Department and the Armed Police Force would be deployed as the back-up force.
Spectators would be examined with metal detectors before letting them check in the stadium while police personnel would guard the parapet so as to avoid any untoward activity from audience, Thapa added.
The Namibian players, coaches and foreign umpires would be provided with escorts from the point they reach at the Tribhuvan International Airport till their departure.
Police recalled that some undesired activities were reported during a Nepal-US cricket match around seven years ago in the same venue.
Earlier, it was reported that the International Cricket Council did not want to hold the matches in Kirtipur owing to insufficient security measures among other reasons. After the government assured of full security, the ICC had agreed to do the matches here as per its previous decision.
Meanwhile, Thapa urged spectators to present themselves civilised and disciplined during the matches.
